Description

This is my latest project, an arcane-themed functional hour glass!

  • No glue
  • No AMS
  • Minimal supports

A few tips: If you do choose to print the hourglass in vase mode, take extreme care when removing the print from the bed and handling it. It is very fragile at the neck. If you don't care about transparency, you can print it with a couple walls, or even use the stronger hourglass model in the raw model files.

Everything is press fit with no glue required, however you may use glue for peace of mind if you like. Once everything is printed, I recommend first pressing the crystals into their slots, then pressing the black support pieces in the base pieces. After that you can press the columnar supports in place, then place the hourglass in one of the base pieces. When you're placing the final base piece on top, take acre to guide the hourglass top into its lot so you don't accidentally put too much pressure on the hourglass, which will snap it at the neck area.

For the sand in the hourglass, I just ordered some black sand on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P6SYVJL/ref=dp_iou_view_item?ie=UTF8&th=1

You can also use sugar, different colors of sand, or leave it out altogether if you prefer the look of it without the potential sandy mess.

Once the hourglass is printed and you've loaded it with sand, make sure to be gentle with the hourglass cap piece. I used a heat gun to for just a couple seconds on the hourglass to help place the cap piece in gently.

One final note, you may see some artifacts on the tall column pieces on the bed slingers such as the A1. You can add supports at the mid-point and slow the print down to mitigate this.

Happy printing! Please let me know if you have any suggestions or questions!
