Description

As Easter is approaching, I created this cute pop-up Easter Egg. It has a twist to it, literally… If you twist the bottom part of the egg, a cute chick pops out of the egg!

The model can be printed without an AMS. All similar color parts are on different plates in the print profile. You can adjust this of course if you do have an AMS. Be sure to read the Filament and Slicer settings section below if you do that!

In order to give the model a more natural look, I used the Fuzzy skin painting on the outside of the egg shell and the chick. You can remove that in your slicer (e.g. Bambu Studio). If you need instructions on how to do this, drop a comment below and I can assist you.

Boost MeIf you like this design and are happy with the print, please consider giving it a boost. It keeps me motivated to create more designs!

Filament and Slicer settings

  • I printed the models in Bambu Lab PLA.
  • I chose the standard Bambu Lab settings for 0.20 mm layer height.
  • Support is only necessary for the top part of the egg. All other objects are printed without support.
  • I added Fuzzy skin to the outer walls of the egg and to the chick using the ‘Fuzzy skin painting’ tool in Bambu Studio. If you don't like this, you can remove it using that same tool.

On the P2S, I printed these models in ‘ludicrous speed’ and even that worked great!

Assembly

Assembly is pretty straightforward. You'll need a bit of superglue to attach the eyes and the beak of the chick. For all other parts, no glue is needed.

Chick

  1. Add the small white pupils to the eyes. They slot in from the back. No glue is needed here. In the image below, you'll see the pupils inserted in the eyes. On the left is a view from the back, on the right from the front:

  2. The eyes and beak are attached to the body of the chick using glue.
    1. Add a small drop of superglue to the 3 smooth areas:

    2. Add the 2 assembled eyes and the beak:

  3. Add the top half of the egg to the chick.
    1. Take the top part of the egg and locate the hole (with slot) in the center. Make sure all support material is removed here!

    2. Press the top part of the egg on the chick. No glue is needed here:

  4. Assemble the bottom part of the egg:

    1. Add the rotating shaft to the biggest part of the egg. Make sure you don't damage the 4 pins of the shaft. These are a bit fragile!

    2. When the shaft sits flush, insert the 4 pins in the hole of the bottom part of the egg. Be careful while doing this, do not use excessive force here as the pins can break! Twist a bit to align the square part of the shaft with the square hole in the bottom.

  5. Last step: add the chick to the egg.
    1. Make sure that the double slots of the chick and the egg align.

    2. Now turn the bottom part of the egg counter clockwise and the chick will disappear in the egg!

  6. All done!
