Historic Aztec Pill Box

This project is my official entry for the "Old World Magic" design contest. My goal was to create an object that feels like a rediscovered relic—an artifact where ancient craftsmanship and functional engineering become indistinguishable.

 

The Concept The Historic Aztec Pill Box is a functional organizer disguised as a heavy, weathered "Sun Stone" coin. Inspired by the intricate stonework of the Mexica people, the exterior features complex, purely geometric patterns that flow across the surface, hiding the seams of its secret compartment.

 

The Design Process

• Organic Geometry: Unlike modern, perfect CAD shapes, I intentionally designed the patterns to feel hand-carved and slightly weathered.

   

• Cool Fidget Factor: Beyond its utility as a container, the rotating cover provides a satisfying tactile experience, making it a cool fidget toy to keep on your desk.

   

• Materiality: Designed to be printed with matte or metallic filaments to mimic the weight and texture of ancient bronze or volcanic basalt.

• To Mike (@prime_tower): A sincere thank you for organizing the "Old World Magic" contest. Your vision of blending storytelling with 3D printing inspired me to rethink how a simple container can tell a story of discovery and wonder.

 

• Inspiration & Heritage: I want to give a special nod to the creator of the now-removed "Oreo Pill Organiser". While that model is no longer available, its clever internal mechanism served as the initial conceptual spark for this project.

 

• Technical Adaptation: Although I utilized the same mechanical principle as the original model, I have extensively redesigned and adapted every other aspect of the project. This includes a complete overhaul of the visual geometry, updated proportions, and the creation of entirely new Aztec-themed decorative layers to fit the contest theme.
