Description

A simple, clean thread spool pin designed to fit over the bobbin winder pin on many sewing machines.

Originally modeled for a Brother machine, but should fit any pin ≤6.4mm diameter. The Brother pin measures ~6.1–6.2mm and uses a spring, giving this a snug, secure fit.

Unlike many designs, this prints cleanly with no supports.

Design Notes

  • Two-piece design:
    • Vertical rod
    • Spool support disc (press-fit onto rod)
  • Friction fit is typically sufficient, but glue can be used depending on printer tolerances
  • Optimized for easy, reliable printing

Versions Included

  1. Standard (vertical rod)
    1. Includes brim on the rod in the print profile for stability
    2. Adequate strength for typical use
  2. Side-printed rod version
    1. Layer lines run along the rod → increased strength
    2. Includes flat cut for stable printing

Print Settings

  • Layer height: 0.20 mm
  • Supports: None
  • Materials: PLA, PLA+, or PETG
  • Brim:
    • Recommended for upright rod (included in profile)
    • Optional for side-printed version

Print Orientation

  • Rod:
    • Vertical (standard version) or
    • Horizontal (strength version)
  • Disc:
    • Flat on bed, fillet facing up

Fit Notes

  • Designed for pins up to 6.4mm diameter
  • Depending on your printer tolerances, you may choose to glue the disc to the rod. This is not required— even a loose fit functions correctly as the disc simply supports the spool.
