Description

This display model of a jet engine is heavily inspired by the Eurofighter’s EJ200 engine, but has been simplified and optimised for 3D printing. The model is suitable for educational and display purposes. Please note i’m not an engineer; I’ve simply reverse-engineered it from pictures and built it so that it looks good. There may be some technical inaccuracies in the details.

The model can be assembled using the Jet Engine Model Components Kit - 006. However, additional M2.5x10 screws with matching nuts are required if you wish to fill every screw hole. A brass profile is also needed for the inlet blades.

If you wish to upgrade the model further, there is also an afterburner with a variable nozzle; this is a separate model due to its complexity and the additional hardware required. https://makerworld.com/en/models/2549347-afterburner-variable-nozzle-for-lbp-turbofan#profileId-2807499

(If you want to print the afterburner, print bed 20 is not required of the main model)

There is also a detail add-on featuring hydraulic and fuel lines, attachments, and the option for motorisation.

The model features a variable inlet Blades which can be adjusted using the ring at the front. In addition, the cone at the front – which is part of the detail add-on – can be connected to a PWM controller, which in turn is disguised as an ECU. It can be used to control a motor. A motor can be concealed within the exhaust cone. I used a motor from a record player; these are quiet and have sufficient speed.

The motor mount is available as a STEP so you can adjust it to fit your motor size

Originally, I wanted to print the LBP turbine model from CATIA and made a few changes to suit my taste. However, things have escalated somewhat, and not much of the original model remains; Only the rotors, compressor stages and shaft remain (fused from both CATIA turbines); the rest has been reconditioned or is new.

I thought you might enjoy it too.

Build instructions are below

Materials

Main Model:

Metric machine screw, Allen socket cap, 2.5mm x 0.45mm x 10mm (x100)
Metric hex nut, 2.5mm x 0.45mm (x100)
6204 open ball bearing 20x47x14 (x2)
6003 open ball bearing 17x35x10 (x2)
Brass square profile 1 x 1 x 70 mm (to be cut to size, x12)

Detail Addon:

Metric machine screw, Allen socket cap, 2.5mm x 0.45mm x 10mm (x6)

2mm Aluminium Wire ~10m

Battery Trailer:

Metric machine screw, Allen socket cap, 2.5mm x 0.45mm x 10mm (x3)

Battery Box 4x AA https://eu.store.bambulab.com/de/products/battery-case

Disable “wipe while retracting”  in fillament settings to avoid printing issues; also, make sure the print bed is clean and the filament is dry.

I’m curious to see which colour combination you’ll use – have fun printing!
