Tow Truck for WPL C24-1

This is a tow truck back that fits in the back tray of the WPL C24-1. 

It goes on without having to remove the tray.

 

UPDATE: I've just uploaded the print profile with models for the MG996 360 degree servos. 

It has a couple of updates in addition:

split winch spindle for better printing (superglue required, but prints so much nicely without supports) - also modified to suit MG996

A arm supports have loops for holding your hook while driving

A arm cable guide is 5mm taller to give better alignment of the winch cable

 

Assembly:

You need a few m3 screws of various lengths. I really need to measure them, but most of them aren't super critical, they just need to be maybe 10 - 12mm i think. I'll update when I get a chance to figure it out.

 

Screws needed:

2x 18mm - back mount

2x 13mm  - top of support arm. (these need to be close to this size, can't be longer)

1x 13mm - Guide pully for rope

2x 8mm (minimum, can be 13 mm above- bottom support arm

 

2 or 4 short 10mm m3 to hold servo on

 

The guide pully for the top of the A arm prints in two different halves, and glues together with a drop of super glue.

 

It uses a 360 degree mini servo, attached to an extra channel of your radio receiver. This really depends on your receiver, so I'll leave it up to you to figure out.

The servo I have designed it around is one I had lying around. It is a normal servo modified to run 360 Degrees. It is labelled a Mini servo, it measures 35x1x32mm. I realise it may be difficult to find the specific servo size, as a lot I'm seeing are bigger or smaller. 

 

The closest in measurements I can find are MG996 360 Degree servos (available places such as Aliexpress), which measure 34x13.8x32.2. I haven't tested them yet, but I will and I will update this when I get a chance, (edit: work in progress. It looks like the MG996 is actually a larger sized servo than expected. I am currently redesigning the whole thing to suit the larger servo)

 

To mount the tow unit, you have a couple of options. You can glue it, use double sided tape, or use some nuts and bolts. I've included 3 mounting holes in the base. Use it as a template to mark where to drill the holes
