Description

If you work on cars, especially European ones - not saying any names (BMW), then you’ll know how tricky some small nuts can be to remove. So designed this magnetic insert for metric socket sets, using the standard sizes (8/10/13mm).

These work by inserting the print into a socket and then undoing the nut. Magnet will hold the nut in the socket.

Please note, you’ll need to purchase 5x2mm circular magnets, I got mine from Amazon and work fine.

For deep sockets and nuts where the thread sits proud, loosen the nut normally, then when it’s on the last bit of the thread, insert this magnet into your normal socket and remove the nut without it falling into the engine bay!

Glue magnet in place, the printed section should just push into the socket, easily removed by inserting a thin screwdriver into the rear of the socket and pushing print out.

I’ve designed different tolerances into each size, so print all the pieces once, find the variant that fits your socket set best, then next time you need to print, break into objects and just print the ones you need.

Full print time is 25 mins approx.

I’ve printed mine with 4 walls, 4 base layer thickness and 5 top layer thickness.

The socket takes the strain so there’s really no pressure on the print itself really.
