Do you have an Xtool F1 or F2 and don't feel like paying $300 for their Desktop Air Purifier? Well, look no further! I have designed an affordable solution for your laser engraver's dirty smells that can really cause a headache.
Introducing the Xhaust Box. The Xhaust Box severely reduces dirty fumes and collects dust all in a sleek design that attaches right to your laser. The form factor makes your laser look like a sleek unit rather than having hoses connected and running through your workspace. The Xhaust box is a three-part system that focuses on air purification, and airflow to allow your laser to be used anywhere you want.
This is how it works.
The Base
- The base is the first level of filtration in The Xhaust Box. This is how The Xhaust Box connects to your laser. The fitting is precisely measured to be a snug fit to the coupler on the back of your laser. Its fit is tight so that no air escapes from the first point of contact with the laser. Inside of the base is where the filtration magic begins. The base was designed to increase outward airflow with smooth curved edges which lead to the opening hole for the first level of filtration. The first level of filtration consists of a square cutout to the compartment that contains 2 HEPA filters (commonly sold on Amazon and not included). The two HEPA filters aid in minimizing dust particulates in the air. I designed the filter compartment to hold two HEPA filters that way there’s redundancy.
The Activated Carbon Chute
- The next level of the filtration process is the Activated Carbon Chute which connects to the base, The Activated Carbon Chute can hold a considerable amount of activate carbon. Activated Carbon when used in air filtration reduces the amount of VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) in the air and eliminates the odors associated with Laser Engraving. The Activated Carbon (also commonly sold on Amazon and not included) needs to be bigger pieces and not fine granulate for the system to operate as it was designed. The Activated Carbon Chute has a lid which contains the Activated Carbon, so it doesn’t make a mess.
The Xhaust Box system has gone through vigorous testing, and I use it daily in my office. The Xhaust Box really does work but there are some considerations users need to know.
- You will still smell odors from the Laser Engraver. The reason for this is that the system is not sealed at the top of the enclosure. Ther are small gaps between the enclosure and the Laser Engraver itself where odors escape. YOU WILL STILL HAVE A FAINT SMELL, but it is WAY more manageable than when you do not have The Xhaust Box connected and working.
- HEPA Filters usually last 10-14 days of constant use. So, if you do not constantly have your Laser Engraver working this is a perfect solution. If you do have your Laser Engraver working 24 hours a day, you will just need to change the filter every 10-14 days.
I really hope that you enjoy The Xhaust Box. I have put a lot of time into designing, prototyping, testing The Xhaust Box to be a sleek all in one solution to bad smells and headaches from Laser Engraving.

UPDATE!
I have been working on a V2 model of this which a significantly improved version. Asthetically it is more streamlined and functionally it is superior to V1 offering higher capacity chute for more activated carbon. The base is also being optimized to have better airflow to manipulate the air upwards through the filtration and allow for less circulating air in the base.
