The biggest flaw in most 3D-printed lures is structural integrity. Most DIY designs rely on screw-in eyelets, which are a guaranteed failure point when a trophy fish hits. I designed the Bullet 80 to bridge the gap between 3D printing and high-end commercial standards, prioritizing strength over easy assembly.
🛠️ Engineering & Build Quality
This lure is built to handle "the fish of a lifetime." Here’s the breakdown of the technical choices:
Full Wire-Through Construction: Unlike standard 3D prints that use screw eyes, this popper features a continuous stainless steel wire harness (0.8mm). The tension from the fish is transferred directly to the wire, not the plastic body. This ensures you’ll actually land the fish instead of being left with a broken lure.
PR-Knotter / Roto-Knotter Finishing: I utilized a PR-knotter technique to secure and tension the wire harness. This provides surgical precision and a rock-solid internal structure rarely seen in the 3D printing world.
Dual-Slot Internal Rattle: The internal chamber is designed for two 0.2g lead weights. This isn't just for ballast; it creates a high-frequency "clacking" sound during the popping action, specifically tuned to trigger aggressive strikes from Largemouth Bass.
Epoxy Resin Armor: Each lure is finished with a high-build epoxy clear coat. This provides a "glass-like" finish that is waterproof and tough enough to withstand toothy predators and rock impacts (in the video you will see different methods for finishing this lure).

🌊 Performance & Versatility
At 18-20 grams, this 80mm popper is a "casting machine." It cuts through the wind like a bullet, allowing you to reach distant surface blowups that other lures can't touch.
PLA: Provides the best acoustic resonance. The hard internal walls make the rattle sound much crisper.
PETG: The "Tank" build. Highly resistant to impact and, more importantly, high temperatures (crucial if you leave your tackle box in a hot truck or boat).
PLA Silk: Ideal for high-detail prototypes with a premium metallic sheen.
💡 Design Philosophy
I didn't want a "shelf queen"; I wanted a tool. The difference between landing a personal best and a "one that got away" story is the internal engineering. With the through-wire system and precision balancing, the Popper 80 is built to perform under pressure.
Builder's Note:Modeled in Fusion360 and printed with industrial precision. If you’re tired of 3D-printed lures failing at the net, the full wire-through system is the only way to go
