Description
Since I have been tutoring physics I was looking for a DC motor model I could easily transport. Not satisfied with the designs I could find I set about designing my own. This is version 2 and features off-the-shelf neodymium magnets, copper wire, a removable rotor and dual coils. Winding the coils is fiddly but should be achievable for secondary school students under supervision. The design allows for a single coil or a change of magnets and could be used to explore what makes the motors spin faster. There are no glued components so the 3D printed parts can be reused if the wiring needs reworking. The needle bearings work extremely well and allow for high speed rotation. A detailed assembly guide PDF is included. Below is a video of the design operating.
Parts required.
