Chipfinity – Modular Label System for Gridfinity

This is a variant of the standard Chipfinity that allows bins to stack. The cut-out is intentionally left out to not get in the way when scooping parts out of the bin

Chipfinity is a modular labeling system designed specifically for Gridfinity bins. It uses removable snap‑in “chips” that click into a front label rail, making labels easy to swap, update, or reorganize.

Compatibility

  • Designed to interface with Gridfinity bins generated using the Fusion 360 Gridfinity plugin
  • Requires the “Generate stacking lip” option to be enabled
  • Parametrically designed to configure for any bin/chip configuration

Design Notes

  • Each chip includes a detent to prevent it from sliding out unintentionally
  • The fit is intentionally snug to give a positive “click” when inserting or removing chips

Print tolerance note:
If your chips have noticeable elephant’s foot, there is a small chance that tolerances can stack up, which may cause very slight bowing across a fully populated tray. In most cases this is negligible, but it’s something to be aware of if your first layer compensation isn’t well tuned.

Dimensions & Recommended Clearances

  • Maximum chip width: 17 mm
  • Default chip clearance: 0.1 mm (maximum that fits 2 17mm chips on a standard 1U bin)
    • If your tray allows it, a larger clearance is helpful:
    • Suggested chip clearance where possible: 0.25 mm
      • The detent clearance is fixed at 0.1 mm, so increasing chip clearance will not affect the snap‑in feel

Slicer Tip

When importing the chip set into your slicer:

  1. Right‑click in the 3D model workspace
  2. Choose “Split to objects”

Do not right‑click the model name in the object list — that option will show “Split to parts”, which does not behave the same way.

Remix Note

This model originally started from a flat Lidfinity file as a base. Unfortunately, I can’t reliably track down the exact original source. The geometry has since been heavily modified, and very little of the original design remains.
