Turn your Tesla Key Card into a compact, waterproof key fob
This model lets you convert your Tesla key card into a small, durable tag—perfect for watersports, travel, or anytime you don’t want to carry a wallet.
⚠️ Important: This mod is irreversible and done at your own risk. You will permanently modify your key card.
🛠️ Instructions
1. Extract the RFID chip
- Submerge the Tesla key card in acetone for 2–3 hours.
- Once softened, carefully peel away the plastic layers.
- You should be left with the RFID chip and antenna coil (see images).
2. Test before continuing
- Verify the chip still works with your car before proceeding.
3. Compact the antenna
- Gently twist the antenna once to form an “8” shape.
- Fold it into a circular form.
- Repeat once more if needed to reduce the size.
- ⚠️ Be careful: damaging or randomly crumpling the wire might break the key.
4. Test again
- Check functionality again before embedding it in the print.
5. Print & insert
- Start printing the model.
- The print will pause halfway.
- Insert the chip and place the cover piece on top—it should snap in and sit flush.
- Resume the print to seal everything inside.
🧱 Print recommendations
- Material: ASA (recommended for waterproofing and durability)
- Temps: Print on the higher end of your material range
- Cooling: Keep fan low (~30%) for better layer adhesion after the pause
💡 Tips
- Do a dry fit before printing to ensure your folded antenna fits.
- If range decreases slightly, try adjusting the coil shape before sealing.
- Works great on a necklace, wetsuit zipper, or gear loop.
