Description
The ultimate solution to make your IKEA ALEX drawers open all the way.Â
I completely redesigned the rail solution I have first seen from pixelpusher.
Â
This new version:
The print consists of two parts that slide into each other and lock down in the correct position.
Â
How to install (see photos):
To install this rail you will have to cut an opening in the two drawer sides.Â
You can use the smaller of the two printed parts to mark the opening from the outside.
Simply insert the part in the groove of the drawer and align it so that the existing hole for the screw aligns with the end of the screw slot in the printed part. (see photo) Mark the outside of the part on the wood with a pen, and cut it with a sharp knife or a router. The width should be exactly the width of the existing groove.
Â
Insert the assembled part into the opening you just cut from the inside of the drawer. It’s a tight fit on purpose.
Â
Put the screw back as written in the IKEA instruction manual.Â
Be careful not to tighten it too much, so that it can still glide up and down the rail.
Â
Done!
Â
I tested this print with PLA Basic, PLA Matte and PETG HF and all worked fine on the smooth as well as on the textured PEI plate.
It works well at 0.16mm layer height with a 0.4mm nozzle.
