This is a functional and decorative 3D printed wind spinner designed for smooth, low-friction rotation in outdoor conditions. The model uses ball bearings in both the rotor and the swivel body, allowing it to spin easily even in light wind.
In addition to its decorative purpose, the spinner also acts as a simple wind direction indicator.
The design consists of a rotating rotor (blades) and a swivel base, both supported by standard 608ZZ ball bearings, ensuring durability and consistent performance.
Key features:
spins smoothly even in light wind
integrated wind direction functionality
dual-bearing construction for minimal friction
designed for standard M8 hardware
suitable for garden, yard, patio, or outdoor installations
Hardware required:
2× 608ZZ ball bearings (8 mm inner diameter × 22 mm outer diameter × 7 mm width)
1× M8x30 bolt
1× M8 threaded rod (stud), length as required (e.g. ~1 meter)
optional: M8 nuts and washers for additional stability
Assembly notes:
The rotor (spinner blades) is mounted on a 608ZZ bearing using an M8x30 bolt
The swivel body also uses a 608ZZ bearing, allowing the entire spinner to align with wind direction
The base is mounted on a vertically installed M8 threaded rod (stud)
The rod must be positioned vertically to ensure proper operation and smooth rotation
Printing recommendations:
For outdoor use, PETG, ASA, or ABS is recommended
PLA can be used but may degrade over time under UV exposure
Print with good layer adhesion for strength and durability
Smooth surfaces improve rotation performance
Optional light sanding or lubrication can further reduce friction
