This is a custom-engineered net pot specifically designed to replace the stock inserts found in the SiliFine 16 Pcs Self-Watering Pots (3.7 x 4.5 inches). While the original pots are a great value for bulk collections, the included net inserts often lack the airflow and drainage precision required for high-value houseplants.
This design solves those issues by optimizing the fit and functionality within the SiliFine cache pot system.
Why This Design is Better
- Engineered Airflow Gap: Unlike the stock inserts that can sit too flush against the cache pot walls, this net pot is designed with a precise offset. This creates a consistent air chimney between the two pots, ensuring oxygen reaches the root zone from all sides—a critical requirement for preventing root rot in semi-hydroponics.
- Superior Drainage & Aeration: I found the original inserts to be restrictive, so I redesigned the slot geometry. This version features high-level vertical aeration slits and an optimized floor pattern to ensure rapid drainage and maximum gas exchange.
- Nursery Notches: The base includes integrated notches to break water tension. This ensures that when you lift the pot, water drains away completely rather than staying trapped between the net pot and the reservoir floor.
Recommended Print Settings
- Material: PETG is highly recommended for its durability and resistance to constant moisture and nutrient solutions but it also prints great in PLA.
- Walls/Perimeters: 3–4 loops for a rigid, long-lasting structure.
- Layer Height: 0.2mm to 0.24mm for a good balance of print speed and detail on the aeration slits.
- Support Note: Make sure under the support tab the top Z distance is set to 0.26mm for easy support removal.
