Description
My wife and I couldn't bring ourselves to pay 50 or more dollars for RV Snap pads for my new 5th Wheel. So she challenged me to re-create them. I modeled these up and printed them in TPU 95a for about 4 dollars a piece.
There is a modifier for the bottom of the pad to increase strength. I printed them at 50% infill with 8 walls. This seems strong enough for me, but feel free to change it to whatever you think works for your situation. I thought about going with a higher infill, but it already takes over 15 hours to print and 350 grams of filament.
The pad itself is 5mm thick at the bottom. I think the real Snap pads are much thicker, but i'm not sure if that makes that much of a difference. If there is much intertest I can make thicker ones as well.
The pad is 5mm thick at the base and works with 9in round 5th wheel stabilizers. The feet on 4 of my stabilizers have a lip that is 9mm high so that's the spacing I added inside to fit the foot. My front two stabilizers don't have that lip so I will be adding that profile along with pictures of those feet it will fit as well. If you have a different size just let me know I should be able to size them quite easily.
I will also be adding profiles for smaller tongue jacks as well for my utility trailers, and will probably model some up for the scissor jacks on my other camper as well so keep a look out for that.
I have only had these on my camper for about a week now, so I don't know how well the TPU will hold up to the elements and the weight of the camper over a long period of time, but considering how cheap these are to make I would still rather just print another one that pay $50+ for them.
I printed mine out of Sunlu TPU 95a that I was able to get from amazon for $11.97 a spool. The supports are surprisingly easy to remove.
Instead of putting the pad on the ground and lowering the jack onto it I installed the pad onto the jack by starting one side and working the pad around the foot by bending the side out and over top of the foot. I think if i tried to lower the jack into them they would just compress instead of popping onto them.
