Terracotta Warrior – Qin Dynasty Soldier Sculpture

This remix is based on a Terracotta Warrior, part of the vast funerary army created for Qin Shi Huang, the First Emperor of China (c. 210 BCE). These life-sized figures were buried to protect the emperor in the afterlife, forming one of the most significant archaeological discoveries in history. 

 

Each warrior was crafted with individualized facial features, armor, and posture, giving the impression of a real, living army rather than identical figures.  The figures represent different ranks and roles—infantry, officers, archers—and were originally painted in vivid colors that have largely faded over time. 

 

This particular model captures the iconic standing soldier pose, with hands positioned to hold a weapon (often a spear or polearm), dressed in layered armor and a tunic typical of Qin dynasty military attire.

 

The base includes the Chinese inscription ‘中国兵马俑’ (Terracotta Warriors of China), which appears to be a modern label rather than part of the original artifact.

 

 

I imported the original model into Bambu Studio, oriented it for optimal printing, and scaled it to the maximum dimensions supported by A1, P1, and X1 printers. I optimized infill settings to maintain structural strength while preserving surface detail.

 

This is a very straightforward print. The model is naturally stable and requires little to no supports in most orientations, thanks to its upright stance and balanced geometry. The layered armor and clean vertical structure make it especially printer-friendly.

 

Post-processing is minimal—just basic cleanup if needed. The sculpted armor detail and facial features come through nicely even without heavy finishing.

 

 

Material Recommendation:

This model looks best in stone-style filaments such as marble, sandstone, or clay tones to mimic the original terracotta appearance. Earthy colors really help sell the historical look.

 

Printed in Polymaker Panchroma Marble Sandstone PLA filament using the Generic High-Speed PLA profile.

Note: Tall prints can lose adhesion in the final moments. Please wash your build plate prior to printing. Or consider scaling down 10%. I've also had really good luck using BIQU Cryogrip Pro Frostbite build plates.
