Humane Vole & Mole Live-Catch Tunnel

This is my 3D-printed version of the classic tube traps for moles, voles, and similar pests you find in stores. The principle is simple: the animal walks in, but can't get back out. It's a humane, live-catch trap, so you can safely relocate the animals far from your garden.

Why I designed this: The main reason is the inspection port. With store-bought metal traps, you have to dig the whole thing out of the ground just to check if you caught something or if the bait needs refilling. Here, you just slide the top cover open to see what's going on. Thanks to this, you don't have to keep digging up the trap.

Instructions:

  1. Assembly: After printing, snap the doors onto both ends of the tunnel. Important: The doors must be oriented so they open inward (see the photo in the gallery for detail). Slide the inspection cover onto the top section.
  2. Installation: Find a burrow the rodent is using and carefully uncover it. Tip: Dig the hole exactly to the length of the trap. If the hole is too big, loose soil will spill in front of the doors, blocking them.
  3. Placement: Place the trap into the tunnel so the animal can't bypass it—it has to walk through it.
  4. Burying: Cover the trap with soil, but leave the top inspection port exposed. This port is there specifically so you don't have to dig the trap out every time; just clear a little dirt, slide the cover, and take a look.

Print Notes:

  • PETG is highly recommended (it's more durable and weather-resistant).
