Description

Midland Railway footbridge, modelled from scale drawings.

© Copyright Rose and Trev Clough and licensed for reuse under this Creative Commons Licence.

Includes custom supports: do not enable supports when printing, as all the support is already included.

Model is that as drawn, with steps down to rail level on one side, and to platform level on the other.

The vertical columns are oversized by 30% to look stronger and to make the model more printable. Other dimensions are close to the original. I haven't tried to model the lamps, or the curved side-rail stiffeners.

UPDATE 19 May 2026: parametric model added, for customizable bridge models:

  • Number of central 7-foot spans: one to four. The bridge also has a 7-step spans at each end of the main span.
  • Number of steps parallel to the track: 15 to 26. Starting from rail height needs around 24 steps, starting at platform height needs 16 to 19 steps.
  • Model scale: 1:148 to 1:160 (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N_scale)
  • Nozzle size (0.4 or 0.2) and layer height (0.12, 0.16 or 0.2) to set support clearances and minimum printable widths. Default 0.4 nozzle and 0.12 layer height.

Please let me know how you get on with parametric models: I can tweak dimensions if needed.
