Description
This piece takes the cross-section of a log as its starting point,
preserving growth rings, cracks, and knots as part of the form itself.
Rather than treating these as surface decoration,
they are integrated into the geometry—
turning traces of time into structure.
Through digital modeling and 3D printing,
a fragment of natural form is reinterpreted into a functional desk object,
positioned between material memory and intentional fabrication.
Surface details are not applied, but embedded into the geometry,
allowing texture to define the overall shape.
The object is carved into a hollow container,
establishing a direct relationship between form and function.
Designed as a single continuous volume,
eliminating the need for assembly and reinforcing structural clarity.
Subtle irregularities are preserved,
giving the object a more natural presence beyond industrial uniformity.
