Maximise Your Workspace: Customisable Skådis Floating Shelf Generator
The IKEA Skådis system is a staple for home and office organisation, but standard shelves often lack the depth or length required for specific equipment. I designed this Parametric Floating Shelf Generator in Fusion 360 to solve that exact problem, allowing you to create bespoke storage that fits your tools perfectly, rather than compromising on a "close enough" fit.
Here is what you can expect from this model:
Parametric Flexibility: Generate the exact width (up to 400mm per section) and depth (up to 240mm) you need to accommodate all your needs
Modular & Endless Expansion: Configure the ends to be capped off for a sleek standalone shelf, or generate connecting joints to link multiple sections together for a massive, continuous run across your entire board.
Surface Patterns: Choose between a smooth finish, aesthetic grooves, or rails to suit your specific display or storage needs.
Single-Extruder Colour Accents: The base files are configured for a single material. The accents on the lip is achieved via a simple layer swap in your slicer, so no AMS unit required.

Technical Printability
For these shelves, I am running Sunlu PLA+. Given that they will bear continuous weight, your primary focus should be on bed adhesion and structural integrity.
Structural Integrity: Increase your wall loops to 3 or 4 on the support brackets. This contributes far more to the shelf's overall rigidity and load-bearing capacity than a dense infill. 15% infill is perfectly adequate for standard loads.
Bed Adhesion: A large, flat footprint is prone to warping at the extremities if adhesion is compromised. Ensure your build plate is thoroughly degreased before printing.
Supports: If you are generating a middle section with interlocking ends to join multiple shelves together, you will need to enable supports for the connection joints. Standalone capped shelves and flush-butting versions are designed to print entirely support-free!
Accent Detailing: Simply insert a pause at the appropriate layer height using the paint tool in Bambu Studio, swap a different colour, and resume printing to achieve the two-tone aesthetic.
Printing & Installation Guide
Support Brackets: The shelf slides securely onto custom Skådis mounting brackets. Important: The deeper and longer you make your shelf, the more leverage it will have. Be sure to generate and install extra support brackets along the run to ensure maximum load-bearing strength.
Installation: Simply snap your printed brackets into the Skådis board and slide the shelf sections directly onto the rails.

How to Customise Your Shelf
Generating your bespoke shelf is straightforward using MakerWorld’s built-in Parametric Model Maker.
Accessing the Customiser: Navigate to the top of this model page. Instead of the standard "Download" button, you will see a green button labelled "Customize". Clicking this will open the generator interface.
Adjusting the Parameters: Once the interface loads, you will see a panel on the left labelled "Parameters". You can adjust the dimensions and features of your shelf using the sliders or by entering numbers directly into the input boxes.
Here are the key options you can adjust:
Length: This slider controls how wide your shelf will be along the pegboard. Pay close attention to the label next to the input box (e.g., "1 = 40mm") as this indicates the increment based on the Skådis hole spacing.
Width: This adjusts the depth of the shelf, determining how far it protrudes from the wall (e.g., "1 = 10mm").
End Caps (Left/Right): Toggles side walls on the ends of the shelf on (1) or off (0) to create standalone shelves or open ends for expansion.
Pattern Selector: Customise the top surface of your shelf. Choose 0 for a smooth finish, 1 for aesthetic grooves, or 2 for rails.

Generating and Downloading: After adjusting your settings, click the large blue "Generate" button at the bottom left of the window. The 3D preview in the centre will update to show your custom design. Once you are satisfied, click the "Download" button at the top right of the page to generate your unique STL or 3MF file.
