Description

This is the Woodland Slats organization system, a wall mounted organizer which integrates with a wide range of Ikea Skadis accessories. This is a custom alternative to the classic and well supported Ikea Skadis system using every other vertical line with custom spaces which are more dense than the classic boards vertically. This new board uses a fully hidden mounting system adding more style to your space whether you choose to use laser cut wood inserts or 3D printed inserts. There are many ways to incorperate this board into your house, I have included pictures of how I use it as a display by my desk as well as an organizer by my front door.

The grid is built off a standard 240mm width and height allowing you to perfectly fit it to your space by adding more height or width with more boards, and the sides are capped off with an additional 15.5mm side piece. This layout combined with the slat panels allows for seamless growth making the board grow without visible hardware.

There are 2 options for vertical hook placement, you can use them with each other to mix and match or do a single one.

  1. 15mm
    1. Densely packed for maximum vertical adjustability
    2. Does not work with Skadis hooks using more than 1 vertical hook
  2. 20mm
    1. 2x as dense as original Skadis but not as dense as the 15mm option
    2. Works with skadis accessories containing multipel vertical hooks

Printing Tips:

This mode does print flat, the most common print issue you will run into is warping. This can be solved many ways and I am happy to help anyone walk through fixing this for your printer.

Here's a few quick tips to ensure it works great first try:

  1. Clean your build plate with soap and warm water to remove any oils
  2. Slow the print down, easiest way is to change the printer to Silent Mode (66% speed)
  3. Reduce all part cooling fans and aux fans to under 20%
  4. Increase your bed temperature by 10*C

Laser Cutting:

If you choose to laser cut the slat inserts, it should be 3mm thick and the shape is a rectangle with the dimensions 240mm tall by 26.8mm wide, adjust width based on you tolerances. I did a mix of full height and half height panels for a patterned look out of Bamboo wood.

UPDATE: 5/10/26

  • Added new plates to the Bow Lock print profile for a larger Bow Lock (scaled to 102%) for filaments or prints that end up shrinking not giving the tight press fit as intended. The deafault print profile still included the standard Bow Lock.

UPDATE: 5/9/26

  • Added additional plate to Single Board print profiles with an additional panel option. This new panels has a less dense vertical hook spacing (20mm as opposed to the original 15mm) to provide better Skadis integration with models that use multiple vertical hooks in exchange for less vertical placement flexibility. Both panels will still attach to each other, this just adds an option for hook placements.
  • Added Wood grain texture 3D printed Slats profile
  • Added a Bow Lock profile with various sets of bow locks as more are needed when scaling to more than 1 panels
  • Added Shelf print profile with the Skadis shelf I made for my display model

Assembly:

Assembly will vary based on the exact layout you chose to do. I will walk you through how to do a single panel and point out some variations along the way and how the required parts may change.

For a single panel you will need 1 Main Body, 6 Bow Locks, 6 Half Bows, and 2 Sides (left and right are identical)

The Full Bow will attach the Main Body to the sides, 3 per side. The Half Bow is just a filler for the top and bottom to ensure there are no gaps. The bows are both shorter than needed to ensure they sit flush or below the surface level. They are both marked on one side with an arrow, this will be the inward side and when looking at the assembled piece you should not see any of these arrows, this surface is a little smaller than the other to make it easier to go in and self align.

Here's and example of a downward extension:

Note that the bottom Half Bow was replaced with a full Bow Lock

After you have your grid assembled its time to insert the slats, these will either be 3D printed or laser cut from your wood of choice. The width may vary based on your printer tolerances but can be adjusted by using the scale function with the uniform box unchecked to change width. I included a great average point of 26.8mm, but the actual gap is 27mm. These slats come in 2 lengths, Full and Half, you are welcome to use either wherever you want and it is just aesthetic. I prefer to alternate Full then 2 Half stacked. These should slide in firmly but not fall out under gravity.

Orientation:

When placing your new boards on the wall for install, the internal hooks must be on the left side or the skadis adapters will not stay in the board

Board Alternative:

There is also a board with 3mm countersunk holes for hardware mounting if you prefer this over adhesives. This board can be used in combination with boards without holes in it and hardware can be placed in any or all holes at your disgression. Each assembled board weights roughly 500g including the slats material.

Mounting Skadis Accessories:

The final step is to add Skadis adapter hooks wherever you like on the model. These function on a twist based interlocking system. Insert the adapter vertically and twist clockwise 60* for it to catch on a hook, you may need some vertical wiggle to slot it properly but once there is weight on it these do not come out and are rotationally locked when using an accessory with more than 2 hooks.

Take note that the blue flat surface is not angled on insert, this is the top and will give you the most secure install.

This piece is a little hard to grab with your hands, I am actively working on an install tool to make it easier
