Ionico — Not just a pretty column

Ionico

After finishing one of my personal projects, I was left with a Roman-style column model. I wanted to find a use for it — and that's how Ionico was born.

Ionico is a display pedestal with a secret compartment and several additional functional variations. For easier printing and a cleaner appearance, the model is designed as a set of separate parts that are simple to assemble.

Besides functioning as a display stand, Ionico conceals an internal compartment beneath the display platform — suitable for storing small items.

Expanding on the concept, the central cavity can also be used to hold a small plant. Two options are available:

• a version with an insertable sealed planter
• a dedicated drainage version

A separate lamp-compatible version is also available, allowing Ionico to function as a decorative lamp using the Bambu Lab lamp kit.

Update May 12th:

Ionico S-size can also serve as a phone stand — a dedicated holder attachment is available in two variants: a standard enclosed version and an open-shell version without a front wall.

Sizes and Versions

S — The most compact version. Fits on the A1 mini and is available in the standard pedestal configuration only.

M — Medium-sized version, also printable on the A1 mini. Available in all configurations: standard storage, sealed planter, drainage planter, and lamp-compatible.

L — Large version that exceeds the A1 mini print volume. Available in all configurations.

Assembly Instructions

Ionico is assembled from two main body parts and can optionally be completed with a display platform or a planter insert. The kit includes four small locking pins printed separately on an additional plate, inserted into dedicated grooves on both main parts.

Assembly requires three simple steps:

1. Place the upper part with the grooves facing upward.
2. Insert the locking pins into the grooves with the tapered ends facing upward.
3. Turn the lower part grooves downward, slide it sideways into position, and flip the assembled structure upright.

When both parts are aligned so that their central openings match, the groove openings align as well — the pins drop into place and lock both parts together securely.

💡 Tip: Print your object directly on the platform

The display platform is designed to print top-side up — which means you can place your object on it directly in the slicer and print them together. Import your model, center it on the platform, merge both into an assembly, and adjust the Z position to set how deep it sits — up to the full height of the platform.

💡 Printing notes

The lamp cover is included in the profile and set to print in Translucent PLA for a diffused light effect. You may substitute it with Basic PLA or skip it entirely if preferred.
