Description
Step into the shield wall! This is a fully 3D-printable, interlocking board for Hnefatafl, the ancient asymmetric strategy game played by the Vikings centuries before Chess arrived in Europe.
This specific design is an 11x11 board highly optimized for standard FDM printers (specifically tailored to fit on a single Bambu Lab A1, P1, or X1 plate in a single print run). It features a unique 4-piece asymmetric wedge interlocking system. The wedges are entirely internal, meaning once snapped together, the outer border of the board remains perfectly smooth and seamless.
To bring the Viking theme to life, the board features deeply recessed, historically inspired runes to guide your gameplay setup:
Hnefatafl is an asymmetric game of cat-and-mouse. One player controls the King and his small royal guard in the center of the board. Their goal? Escort the King safely to any of the four corners. The other player controls an attacking horde twice the size, swarming from the edges. Their goal? Surround and capture the King.
All pieces move like Rooks in Chess (straight lines, any distance), and captures are made by "sandwiching" an enemy piece between two of your own.
