Description
This is a 3D printable chess set inspired by the original Mobile Suit Gundam 0079, built around the conflict between the Earth Federation Space Force and Zeon.
The set mainly represents the later stages of the One Year War, especially battles such as Odessa, Solomon, and most heavily the Battle of A Baoa Qu, where many of these units and ships appear together during the final large-scale Federation vs Zeon conflict.
The lineup was chosen to feel like a small tabletop version of the war from the anime. Each side uses units that represent its battlefield identity: command ships as Kings, ace mobile suits as Queens, heavy support units as Rooks, tactical units as Bishops and Knights, and mass-produced units as Pawns. The goal was to make the board feel like a real EFSF vs Zeon battlefield rather than just a random collection of Gundam models.
The pieces are designed in a simplified blocky/chibi style that keeps the main silhouettes and recognizable features while making them sturdy, easy to print, and visually consistent as a full chess set. Each piece also includes a small engraved “G” emblem on the bottom of the base to represent Gundam and give the set a consistent identity. The engraved line color matches the piece color: white pieces use a white engraved line, while grey pieces use a grey engraved line.
The print profile has been heavily optimized for high-detail miniature printing with supports that are easy to remove. For best results, make sure your filament is well calibrated before printing.
If you face issues with support removal, print head knocking supports down, stringing, or surface quality, consider adjusting the slicer settings to match your printer and filament. Recommended tweaks include:
I had a lot of fun designing and testing this model, and I hope you enjoy it! If this set does well, I plan to expand the G-Chess line into other Gundam universes such as Gundam SEED, Gundam Wing, Iron-Blooded Orphans, Gundam 00, and The Witch from Mercury.
This is fan art made for personal use and appreciation of the Gundam franchise.
