Description

This is a modular test tube rack designed for holding test tubes in an ant-keeping setup. It is specifically designed to be space-efficient, sturdy, and easy to assemble from standard 3D printed parts, minimizing material waste and print time. The compact size of approximately 100mm x 100mm makes it perfect for limited desk space or placing directly into larger ant terrariums.

The assembly is straightforward, utilizing interlocking slots to combine the two scalloped side frames with three standard connection bars. This creates a secure structure for your test tubes.

Features:

  • Holds 4 Standard Test Tubes: Designed for standard-sized tubes used for founding ant colonies.
  • Modular Design: Easy assembly and disassembly for cleaning and storage.
  • Compact Footprint: Approx. 100x100mm.
  • Efficient Print: Optimized geometry for clean printing and low material usage.
  • Stable Scalloped Frames: Securely cradles tubes to prevent rolling and accidental displacement.
  • Ant-Keeper Approved: Tested with tubes containing small, growing ant colonies (complete with cotton plugs).

Print Settings:

  • Material: PLA, PETG (PETG is recommended for its strength and food safety). The example images are printed in a striking Green PLA.
  • Layer Height: 0.2mm
  • Infill: 15% (Grid or Gyroid)
  • Supports: Not needed for most well-calibrated printers.
  • Orientation: All parts fit on a small bed. Print the side frames and connecting bars flat on their largest faces.

How to Use: Print all parts. Check tolerances of the slots; you may need a small file if they are too tight. Align the slots on the connecting bars with the slots on the side frames and slide them together. Once assembled, place your test tubes securely within the scalloped slots. Enjoy a tidy and functional ant lab!

Happy Ant Keeping!
