Boost MePlease consider sending me a boost, as it will make it possible for me to make even more wobblers and lures!

Description This is my replica of the classic Nils Master lure, designed to give you that legendary swimming action without breaking the bank. Whether you are trolling behind a boat or casting and retrieving, this lure performs beautifully. It is a floating model that dives to a highly effective depth when retrieved.

A massive amount of thought and testing went into the physics of this design. The bare weight, density, and center of mass have been perfectly matched to the original lure. Because the physical properties are identical, this printed version achieves the exact same lively swimming action that makes the original so famous.

Design Notes

  • True-to-original physics: Center of mass and density perfectly match the original.
  • Bare weight: 19 grams (without hooks and split rings) - exactly the same as the real deal.
  • Reinforced Lip Design: Unlike the main body, the diving lip is printed as a separate piece. This is a deliberate design choice so the lip can be printed in its strongest layer orientation. Lures take a beating from bumping into aquatic plants, sticks, and rocks. Printing the lip separately and flat ensures it won't snap off when hitting underwater obstacles.
  • Integrated Print Stability: To ensure success with these tall, thin models, I have integrated a sacrificial stability disk at the base. This prevents the lure from wobbling or falling over during the print process. Once finished, the lure simply "rocks" off the thin disk with a clean snap.

Assembly The lure consists of two printed parts: the main body and the diving lip.

  1. Glue the lip into the body using either epoxy or a strong superglue.
  2. Prepare the Holes & Install Hardware: Install the 3 screw eyes into the prepared pilot holes. To make this step incredibly easy, I have uploaded a "Handdrill Handle" model on my MakerWorld profile. You can print it, glue a 1mm HSS drill bit inside, and use it to effortlessly pre-drill the holes before screwing the eyes firmly into place! Alternatively, you can gently heat the screw eyes with a lighter before pressing them into the plastic.

Hardware requirements:

  • 3x Screw eyes: 1.3 mm thread thickness, 12 mm full length, 5 mm outer eye diameter, 8 mm shaft length. (Make sure to get stainless steel).
  • 2x 8 mm split rings
  • 2x Treble hooks: Size #1 to #8. (Note: The original Nils Master uses quite heavy-duty #1 treble hooks, but you can adjust the size down to #8 depending on what species you are targeting).

Finishing For my own lures, I highly recommend sealing the printed body in clear UV resin or a strong waterproof clear coat. Before curing, make sure there is no resin blocking the eyelets. This gives the lure:

  • A smoother, shiny finish
  • Much better durability against sharp teeth (like pike)
  • Complete water resistance

Important For the best balance, correct weight (19g), and perfect swimming action, it is very important to use my included print profile. This model’s internal density has been carefully calculated around that specific profile, and changing print settings (like infill or wall loops) will alter the center of mass and ruin the action.

Tight Lines!
