Description
Niederstetten is a small rural town in the countryside of Baden-Württemberg in south Germany. It is located on the so-called Tauberbahn, a rural branch lline which was opened in 1870 and is still in operation with hourly local trains. The station building was constructed when the line went into operation, it is over 150 years old. As far as I can gather the station building is no longer owned by the railways but has been sold to private interests. It is a massive stone building, quite large for such a small station on a branch line, and has a fairly unique and representative look, with stone columns on the frontside. The style is also quite unusual for a German building, at first look it resembles stone buildings from Scotland or the Bretagne.
I have modeled the building according to the original construction plans which are available online in the Baden-Württemberg state archive. It has been remodeled only slightly over time, the gables on the left and right side sheds and over the octagonal tower have been razed, but others than that the building has still pretty much the same appearance as when it was built 150 years ago.
The stones make for an interesting choice of filament colors. I think it is sandstone or limestone, some images taken after a recent renovation and cleansing show a brown honey-like color, on other images the building looks dark gray, as weathered sandstone will look after a few decades.
The model will be a good fit for model railways with a rural branch line theme, but will be equally at home as a mainline station for a small town.
The model is in H0 model railway scale (1:87) and has over 280 parts that need to be assembled. I designed it using Tinkercad and have printed my copies on a Bambu Lab X1C printer using PLA filament. The joints and part fittings are designed with tolerances of 0,2mm, which should give a good fit – not too tight, not too loose. You may have to cut and file some edges after print. A PDF file with assembly instructions is included.
Enjoy.
