🚨 NEW 🚨
Updated June 4th 2026
Added the XL Cajon profiles: One color / 2 Color AMS
Combined the Body & Back Plate in the same profile to clean up the profile listings, simpler layout
📐 2 Cajon Sizes
Normal
Dimensions: 225mm tall x 150mm height x 123mm depth
Filament: Body 277g + Back Plate 97g = 374g total
Time: Body 9 hours + Back plate 2h38m + cooling times 10minutes ~ 12 hours total
Acoustics: Bass hit recorded ~ 80hz, snare hit recorded at 160hz
Tapa thickness: 4 layers at 0.2mm = 0.8mm tapa thickness
Overall impressions: easy to play, small size fits nicely in between your legs while sitting down in a chair, not super loud, feels like a good djembe drum. Highly recommend for playing while sitting down, portability or for kids.
XL
Dimensions: 255mm tall x 200mm height x 184mm depth
Filament: Body 513g + Back plate 147g = 660g total
Time: Body 15h30m + Back plate 3h43 + cooling times 10minutes ~ 19h30
Acoustics: Bass hit recorded at ~ 51hz, snare hit recorded at 129hz
Tapa thickness: 6 layers at 0.2mm = 1.2mm tapa thickness
Overall impressions: big enough to sit on, not as comfortable as a traditional wood cajon. It sounds surprisingly good, the bass is noticeable, the tapa has a great tactile response, you can really hear bass. The snare hits have a djembe feel to them which contrasts nicely with the bass hits. The tapa is super solid, you can really beat it up. Highly recommend for adults and musicians.
🛠️ How to make your own Cajon
You will need to print 2 parts:
The Body
The Back Plate
⚠️ After printing the body or the back plate, let the part cool down on the plate for at least 5 minutes or until the plate reaches room temperature. Removing the body or back plate while still hot can deform the flat surfaces. This is critical.
The back plate will need to be glued to the body using super glue. Follow how I did it with the video below.
Apply a bead of super glue to the whole surface, you want to create a FULL seal, so aim for more super glue than less, the excess will mostly squeeze out inside the cajon.
Use some weights and let the glue dry at least an 1 hour but overnight is better (superglue takes about 24 hours to fully cure, in our case overnight is good enough).
🎨 AMS - Multi Color Option
Select the 2 Color AMS profiles and print your Tapa (the hitting surface) a different color than the body easily.
Make your color selection based on this:
Filament 1 (white) = The Tapa (only a few layers)
Filament 2 (black) = The Body (most of the print)
