Description
In my tutoring I often need to go over basic 2D shapes for maths. After looking at a few available linking sets I set about making my own streamlined version. I had a stack of 3mm diameter x 2mm thick neodymium magnets so I designed these linkages based on them. The resulting design worked well first time, the slots make the magnets easy to insert. The magnets are the right size to allow a firm attachment, whilst being loose enough to allow rotation and easy disassembly. I've been surprised how fun these are to play with, you can make a basic pantograph and draftsmans rule. With the circle element you can even explore some wildly complicated designs that only rotate in one direction (?!)…. it all packs away to almost nothing, great for travel. Check out the videos:
