Description
A friendly tip: Try loosening the mechanism by bending the fingers themselves (not from the rings) first! 😉
This is version No. 4 of the Overengineered Mechanical Hand, and it is like all the previous versions combined—but better!
What it took from v3: The third version delivered a moving thumb, but in a very bulky and unaesthetic way. So, for the new version, I completely redesigned the whole thumb mechanism. Now it is compact, stronger, and looks much better!
What it took from v1 & v2: The new v4 features a 5-finger version, but so we don't forget where this all started, the iconic 4 and 3-finger versions are also included with all the new features. They are simpler, faster to print, and might even look cooler!
This awesome print is fully functional straight off the printer—no supports and no assembly required (except for the thumb strip 😉). Control the hand by pulling the rings, and you’ll be surprised at how strong the grip is! It’s ridiculously fun to grab anything (and anyone) around the house.
Assembly: Just press-fit the thumb strip into each socket, and you’re ready to go. Enjoy your new fidget hand! (There are GIF tutorials in the model images.)
The Overengineered Mechanical Hand series has been an awesome journey, with a lot of people printing and sharing their prints and feedback. With the new v4, this awesome series has come to an end. I want to thank everyone who is having fun with one of the versions; it is an awesome feeling waking up every morning to over 20 notifications and DMs from people who printed and shared their results. There will be much more cool stuff like this in the future!
