Mark LED Name Lamp
Personalized decorative lamp in the shape of the name Mark. The model is designed as a standalone illuminated sign with an internal cavity for LED lighting, creating a soft ambient glow that works well as a bedroom light, desk decoration, nursery decoration, or personalized gift.
Features
- Name: Mark
- Built-in cavity for LED installation
- Clean and modern design
- Suitable for bedrooms, desks, shelves, and gaming setups
- Easy to print with minimal post-processing
- Customizable colors
- Included 2 types of the inside parts (white parts on the photos)
- Flushed - when inserted, the white inside parts of the letters sit flush with the outside (as shown on the photos)
- Indented - when inserted, white parts sit deeper in the letters, for more depth
- Does not include a hole / opening for guiding your cable or controller out back. Please use negative part feature in your slicer to add it or just make one by drilling or cutting once printed. Mine is hardwired and soldered, so a 3mm hole was only needed to guide the wires out
Printing Information
Recommended settings:
- Layer height: 0.2 mm (works best, you might get away with higher height for the outside parts, please check in your slicer before printing)
- Walls: 2–4 (adjust based on your material opacity, lighter colors will let more light through - increase walls)
- Infill: 10–15% (adjust based on your material opacity, lighter colors will let more light through - increase infill or change infill type)
- Supports: needed for cavities, leave ON
- Material: PLA works fine
- Brim: not needed, but make sure you have good adhesion and check aux fan speed to avoid lifting
Dimensions as shown in the photos
- Width: around 35cm / 13.8"
- Height: around 15cm / 5.9"
- Depth: 5cm / 2" letter depth + 1cm / 0.4" offset of each letter after M = 8cm / 3.15" total
LED lighting specs and installation
This model is designed to accommodate LED lighting inside the lamp body. Depending on the controller type you may hide it inside as well.
Recommended, and used in the model shown in the photos:
- LED strip: 5V ARGB led strip, WS2812b, 60LED/meter (you can go higher density strip for “higher resolution” looking lighting)
- Generic inline WS2812b compatible controller (there are cheap options for button controlled ones or a bit more expensive ones with RF remote control, WIFI, apps etc.)
- Power supply: USB adapter (phone charger) - 15-20W will suffice per meter of WS2812b LED strip (60LED/meter); I used around 50cm for this so 2A charger was enough (5V x 2A = 10W)
Routing the LED strip
- For such small scale as shown in photos I put the strip glued to the back of the letters, facing forward. The letters are not wide so it's more than enough of light density
- If you print it at a larger scale, I suggest lining the walls of the letters with the led strip so they are facing sideways; this will also give you all kind of different light patterns and transitions if you use dynamic modes on your controller. This will also require much longer LED strip so make sure you follow it up with sufficient power source!
Assembly
- Print all parts
- Glue together outside parts of the letters
- Install the LED strip inside the cavity of the outside part of the letters (on the back or on the letter walls)
- Route the cable through the designated openings.
- Attach your controller- depending on controller type you choose, all can be outside the model and have only 3 thin wires (one cable) going into the model
- WIFI/app controller - you can hide it inside the model, make a hole to route the power cable out at your preferred spot in the back
- RF (remote controlled) controller - you can hide it inside the model, make a hole to route the power cable out at your preferred spot in the back, RF signal can travel well through PLA and works from the front if the sensor is facing the front (thin white parts of the letters)
- button operated controller - either keep it outside and loose, or make a hole for the buttons and secure it inside the model by gluing, with the buttons facing outwards
- Make sure your installation works before final assembly
- Insert the inside parts of the letters
- they are offset by 0.3 mm to ensure they fit inside and to counter material expanding when printing - they might be a bit loose depending on the material used, use dabs of glue to secure them in place
Notes
- This model is intended for decorative use
- Ensure LEDs do not generate excessive heat
- If using high-power LEDs, verify adequate ventilation and safe wiring practices.
- Ensure your power source can provide sufficient wattage needed for your LED strip
