Description
The Stash Box V2 builds on the original design with a series of refinements focused on usability, durability, and everyday interaction. Every major component has been revisited and improved while preserving compatibility with the trays, inserts, and jars from the original release.
If you've already printed trays or insert options for V1, they will work in V2 without modification. The insert footprint, tray dimensions, and jar ecosystem have been intentionally preserved so existing users can upgrade without reprinting everything they've already invested time and filament into.
This design started because my wife wanted a stash box that felt organized, practical, and enjoyable to use. V2 continues that philosophy by focusing on the details that matter most: how it opens, how it closes, how it feels, and how easily you can access what you keep inside.
The biggest upgrade in V2 is the new integrated locking latch system.
Unlike a simple friction-fit closure, the latch was specifically designed around FDM printing behavior. Guided ramp geometry allows the latch to flex outward during closure before snapping securely into place. Integrated travel stops prevent the latch from over-flexing or swinging too far inward, keeping it aligned and allowing it to consistently ramp into position during closure.
The latch is intentionally tuned with a firm fit when first printed. Open and close it several times during initial use to smooth the contact surfaces and achieve optimal operation.
Features include:
The hinge has been redesigned to provide a tighter, more secure fit while retaining one of the most popular features of the original design.
Once opened, the lid naturally remains upright at approximately 105 degrees, making it easy to access the contents without the lid falling closed.
The updated hinge improves retention while remaining fully removable and serviceable without tools.
The lid storage compartment has been completely redesigned.
Instead of a fixed insert, the V2 compartment pivots outward for easier access to whatever you choose to store inside the lid. Registration features keep the compartment securely closed during normal use while allowing it to be opened quickly when needed.
This turns previously underutilized space into one of the most convenient storage areas in the entire system.
The removable tray returns with the features users enjoyed in V1:
The included print profile applies ironing to the tray surface, producing a smoother finish that feels better to use and makes cleanup easier. The reduced surface texture helps prevent small particles from catching in layer lines while creating a more polished appearance.
A new insert option has been added for users who prefer tube storage.
The insert features sloped finger-access walls that make tubes easier to grab while still retaining space for a threaded storage jar.
Like all insert options, it shares the same footprint and remains fully interchangeable with the rest of the system.
One of the primary goals of V2 was improving the box without invalidating existing prints.
V2 remains compatible with:
If you've already printed accessories for the original Stash Box, they can continue to be used in V2.
Existing V1 users can print only the updated components and continue using their current trays, jars, and inserts.
A simple open compartment for larger accessories, tools, or miscellaneous items.
Holds three threaded jars for users who prefer maximum compartmentalized storage.
Stores pre-roll tubes while still retaining space for a threaded jar.
All insert options share the same footprint and can be swapped at any time.
Multiple print profiles are included so users can print the entire system or only the components they need.
Contains the entire Stash Box V2 ecosystem:
Contains:
Ideal for upgrading from V1 while continuing to use existing trays and inserts.
Contains:
Perfect for printing additional storage jars without reprinting the entire system.
Contains:
Ideal for expanding or replacing insert options.
Contains only the removable rolling tray with ironing enabled for the smoothest possible finish.
Supports are required on:
All other components are designed to print without supports when oriented as provided in the included print profiles.
Most components are designed to print efficiently using larger layer heights.
The threaded jar threads and latch engagement notch use layer height modifiers down to 0.12 mm to improve overhang quality, thread performance, and surface finish while reducing the need for additional supports.
The included print profile applies ironing to the rolling tray surface for improved smoothness and easier cleanup.
The latch is intentionally designed with a snug fit. Open and close it several times after assembly to achieve the smoothest operation.
One pivot includes a lead-in chamfer that simplifies installation while ensuring the latch remains securely retained once fully seated.
Once installed, the lid is securely retained while remaining removable if needed.
The redesigned hinge allows the lid to remain open at approximately 105 degrees during use.
Once installed, the insert is securely retained while still being able to pivot outward.
To access the compartment, pull gently from the upper left and upper right corners and swivel the insert outward.
Several components in V2 were intentionally engineered around the realities of FDM printing, including:
The goal was to create a design that prints reliably, assembles easily, and feels satisfying to use without requiring additional hardware.
The original Stash Box proved the concept. V2 refines it.
Rather than adding complexity for the sake of adding features, every change in V2 focuses on improving the interactions that matter most: opening, closing, accessing, organizing, and maintaining the box.
The result is a more polished, more refined storage system that remains compatible with the ecosystem that came before it.
Happy printing!
