Rail Riding Rally - Fun Competitive Party Game

Description

A deceptively simple party game that looks easy and plays hard. Get the wheel as close to the end of the track as you can without tipping over the edge, then watch everyone else try to beat it.

At Ozarkexpeditions, we spotted a game like this in an Instagram reel and loved the idea, but wanted something more refined - a version that prints cleanly, plays smoothly, and looks like a piece of industrial machinery sitting on the shelf when you are done. The off the shelf version also lets the wheel fly right off the end of the track. Ours does not. Rail Riding Rally adds an end stop that catches the wheel and keeps it from launching off your table, so the only thing flying is the emotions over everyone's competitive streak.

Players line the wheel up over the START position, grip the knurled handle on each side, and spin it forward to roll it as far down the numbered track as they dare. Land high without going bust and the round is yours. It plays fast, scales to any number of players, and doubles as a sneaky way to get kids adding numbers, building dexterity, and developing muscle memory without realizing they are practicing.

Gameplay

  • Players: 2 or more, no upper limit. Rounds go quick so everyone gets a turn at the party.
  • Objective: Be the first player to reach a total of 21 across your turns.
  • How it works: Start with the wheel over START. Grip both knurled handles and spin the wheel forward down the track. Wherever it comes to rest, that number is your score for the turn. Add it to your running total and pass to the next player.
  • Instant win: Roll three 7s in a row and you win the game outright.
  • Going bust: If the wheel rolls all the way into the end stop, you bust and reset your total back to zero. Push your luck at your own risk.

Game Variants

  • Ladder Climb: Be the first to roll 1 through 7 in sequence. On your turn you try to land your next number in order. Miss it and you pass the wheel to the next player, then pick up where you left off on your following turn.
  • Target Number: Agree on a goal total before you start (21 is classic, try 50 for a longer game) and race to hit it exactly.
  • Solo Practice: Challenge yourself to land a specific number, or see how many turns it takes you to reach 21 without busting.
  • Teaching Mode: Great for early math. Kids add each roll to their running total out loud, building addition fluency along with hand control.

Assembly

Recommended materials: PLA or PETG for the track and wheel. The optional wheel pads work well in TPU for a little grip so it rolls nicely down the track.

Hardware: (12) M3x8 machine screws - please checkout the Maker's Supply hardware link below, or you may use our Amazon link: https://amzn.to/4xgVpxg

The assembly is quite easy with just 12 screws in total. The use of fuzzy skin for the handle means that you don't technically need to use glue for the TPU-to-PLA portion as a press fit has worked nicely for our trials.

The fuzzy skin settings of the wheel's handle makes it so that glue is only optional.

Safety & Care

Always supervise young children during play to prevent small parts from being mishandled or swallowed.
