BitBox Heavy Duty Driver

BitBox Heavy Duty Driver is a heavy-duty pocket screwdriver designed to carry the essentials without compromising strength.

There are several MakerWorld designs based on a compact body that stores multiple bits and allows one of them to be used directly as a screwdriver. It's a simple, practical, and popular solution for keeping a few bits always within reach.

With BitBox Heavy Duty Driver, I wanted to keep that same philosophy while addressing one of the main limitations of these designs: torque resistance.

In many models, the bit is inserted directly into a plastic socket and used as the screwdriver itself. Because the insertion depth is usually limited, torsional forces are concentrated in a relatively small area of the printed body. Over time, or when higher torque is applied, this can lead to wear, deformation of the socket, or even cause the bit to spin inside the plastic.

To solve this issue, BitBox Heavy Duty Driver incorporates a standard 60 mm bit extension integrated into the core of the tool. This greatly increases the contact area between the metal component and the printed body, distributing the load over a much larger surface.

In addition, the extension housing has been designed with a very precise fit, minimizing play between the extension and the printed body. This prevents unwanted movement during use, improves the overall feeling of solidity, and reduces the long-term wear that can occur when the extension is free to move inside its housing.

The result is a more robust tool, capable of handling higher torque loads with less plastic deformation and a much more solid feel during use.

Features

  • Compact pocket-sized design
  • Holds 4 standard 25 mm bits
  • Compatible with standard 1/4" hex bits
  • 60 mm bit extension integrated into the structure
  • Sliding carrier with mechanical retention
  • Optimized for 3D printing with no supports required
  • No springs or complex mechanisms

Dimensions

  • 78 mm × 35 mm × 13 mm

Required Hardware

  • 1 × Standard 60 mm 1/4" bit extension (≈ 9.75 mm body diameter)
  • 4 × 6 × 2 mm magnets
  • 4 × Standard 25 mm bits

The extension pocket has been optimized for extensions with a body diameter of approximately 9.75 mm, which is the size used during development and testing.

This diameter was chosen because it is the most common size among the standard 60 mm bit extensions I have come across. However, extensions from different manufacturers may vary slightly in diameter, so minor tolerance adjustments may be required to achieve the intended fit.

Recommended Materials

I have printed and tested the design using both standard PLA and PLA+, with good results in both cases.

If you choose to print it in PETG or other materials, keep in mind that tolerances may vary depending on the material's shrinkage and behavior. In those cases, small tolerance adjustments may be required to achieve the best fit between moving parts.

Assembly

  1. Insert the four magnets into their corresponding slots.
  2. Install the 60 mm bit extension into the main body.
  3. Load the bits into the sliding carrier.

The magnets keep the bits securely retained during transport and use.

To make bit removal easier, each bit slot includes a rear access hole. This allows you to gently push the bit with your finger, causing it to pivot outward for easier grip and removal.

Included Variants

The profile includes variants for Milwaukee, Bosch, Makita, and DeWalt.

The variants shown in the project images have been printed and verified to ensure proper functionality.

Would you like to see a version for another tool brand? Let me know in the comments and I'll try to add the most requested options in future updates.

Note

One of the images shows the bit carrier sectioned in half to reveal the internal structure and illustrate how the 60 mm bit extension is integrated into the core of the tool.

This cutaway view is provided for explanatory purposes only. The actual printed part is a single solid piece and does not require any assembly or modification beyond installing the extension, magnets, and bits.

The same idea of carrying your favorite bits in your pocket, but with a structure designed for real work.

BitBox Heavy Duty Driver

Designed for your pocket. Built for real work.

If you print one, I'd love to see it!
