Who is Gerald?

In the 2016 Disney-Pixar film Finding Dory, Gerald is a minor but memorable sea lion character who serves as a recurring source of comic relief. He lives on a rock off the coast of the Marine Life Institute alongside two other sea lions, Fluke and Ruder. Gerald is portrayed as socially awkward and somewhat pathetic, consistently characterized by his disheveled appearance and his singular, persistent goal: to climb onto the "prime spot" of the rock to bask in the sun. Throughout the film, he is relentlessly bullied by Fluke and Ruder, who famously bark, "Off! Off! Off!" every time he tries to join them. Despite his constant rejection, Gerald remains unfazed and keeps attempting to reclaim his place on the rock, representing a funny, underdog element within the story's secondary cast.
