Description

This is a fully original, 3‑part modular hydroponic system designed to convert any standard 5‑gallon bucket (Lowes/Home Depot) into a high‑flow, 3‑plant outdoor hydroponic garden. It was created in TinkerCad and printed on a Bambu Labs H2C using Sunlu High‑Speed ABS.

The system is engineered specifically for larger outdoor plants such as tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and other heavy feeders that benefit from strong root aeration and continuous nutrient flow.

System Overview

1. Single‑Piece Top Lid (320 mm)

The lid is printed as a single 320 mm one‑piece part, not a multi‑segment assembly. This requires a larger build plate (Bambu A2, A2 Mini, or H2‑series), but the benefit is huge: no seams, no joints, and no leak paths. The lid fits securely over a standard 5‑gallon bucket and includes:

  • Three 80 mm openings for 3" net pots or the included custom pots
  • Pump‑cord access notch
  • 5 mm wall thickness for strength and outdoor durability
  • Clean mechanical interface with the reservoir insert

2. Reservoir Insert

This part sits inside the bucket and locks into the underside of the lid.

Features:

  • 3/8" threaded inlet port for the pump hose
  • Three plant ports aligned with the lid openings
  • Each port includes perimeter water‑flow holes to deliver 360° hydration
  • Three overflow holes to prevent flooding
  • 5 mm structural walls to resist sagging and heat deformation
  • Designed for continuous‑flow or timed‑cycle hydroponics

3. Optional Support Frame

A reinforcement piece that attaches to the underside of the reservoir.

Purpose:

  • Prevents sagging when the reservoir is filled
  • Adds rigidity for long‑term outdoor use
  • Recommended for heavy fruiting plants

Layered Assembly With Bolt‑Together Strength

The entire system is built in three stacked layers (lid → reservoir → optional support). These layers are aligned and secured using three 4×45 mm bolts, creating a rigid, unified structure. This bolt‑together design maintains perfect alignment, prevents sagging, and ensures long‑term watertight performance even under continuous hydroponic flow.

Custom 3" Pots Included

These pots are designed for larger root systems and include:

  • Side ports that align with the reservoir’s water outlets
  • 360° water exposure
  • Strong ABS walls for repeated outdoor use

Why This System?

This design solves a common problem: Tower gardens don’t hydrate tomato/cucumber roots well, and standard buckets don’t distribute water evenly.

This system:

  • Provides full‑circle water flow
  • Supports large plants
  • Prevents root rot with overflow control
  • Works with any small submersible pump + timer
  • Prints reliably in ABS with strong mechanical properties
