Description
A fully customizable storage box with a separate lid and base. This design is a new version of my original Parametric Storage Box. Where the original design does not let you adjust the heights of the lid and base separately, this design does!
This design uses a simple but strong filament hinge to join the lid and base. The model is fully parametric. Click Customize to open MakerWorld’s Parametric Model Maker to adjust the dimensions. See below for more details. Please DO NOT use Bambu Studio's Scale option, this will probably lead to failure…
To get the most out of this design, please read the following instructions carefully!
UPDATE 03 July 2026
I noticed the tolerances of the hinges were a bit too tight, so I slightly increased them to improve smoothness of the operation. The original version still works, but that needs some ‘wearing in’ for it to function smoothly. Additionally, I tweaked the print profile a bit so that the seam is now less prominent (backside)
Suitable for PLA, PETG and other common filaments
The model uses external dimensions as input parameters. All dimensions can be adjusted between 13 and 350 mm where applicable. Maximum dimensions are mainly limited by your printer size.
In order to customize the design to your specific needs, hit the ‘customize’ button under the print profiles:
The Parametric Model Maker will open in a new tab, where you can adjust the following settings:
The usable internal dimensions are:
Example (box in attached print profile):
An external size of 125 × 80 × 70 mm (W × D × total height) could be configured with a 13 mm high lid and a 57 mm high base. This results in internal dimensions of 117 × 71 mm, with 9 mm usable height in the lid and 53 mm usable height in the base.
After downloading, the model in Bambu Studio is 1 object. If you want to print the 2 parts separately (if they don't fit on 1 plate), you can use the ‘Cut’ menu in Bambu Studio to separate the parts. See image below for the settings to use:
The hinge uses a short piece of filament as the hinge pin. A piece (30 mm) of standard (1.75 mm) filament can be used as the hinge pin. For assembly, I suggest the following:
. .
The box uses a snap-fit latch to keep the lid securely closed while still allowing easy opening.
This box can be used for many purposes, including:
You can also create your own inserts or dividers to match your specific needs. I am working on custom inserts for this box, which I will release soon.
The design is optimized for 3D printing.
If you create a custom size, I would love to see your print! Feedback and suggestions are always welcome.
