Description
This remix repositions the ball joint to the side of the mount, giving the dashboard phone holder a much wider range of usable angles. The original design—and the ball supplied with the holder—assumes the phone sits directly in line with the base. By shifting the ball laterally, this version supports more flexible placement, especially when the holder needs to clear trim, vents, or curved surfaces.
For printing, the ball arm should be oriented horizontally to maximize strength at the right‑angle transition. The ball is taller than the sliding component that interfaces with the mount, so the rectangular portion will end up floating on a raft. Thanks to the sliding window, supports are only needed from the build plate, and using a 0.2–0.3 mm support interface distance makes removal clean and predictable. PETG or ASA is recommended for heat resistance inside a car, though PLA works for testing.
The original Tinkercad model (link provided if you want to remix) has been updated to include both right angle arm variations..
