This is a lightweight (48 g), durable, and modular Front Fork Cargo Cage designed for bikepacking, commuting, and touring. It mounts securely to your bike fork’s bottle cage bosses or using heavy-duty zip ties/straps.
To cater to different needs, this project comes in two versions: a standard modular platform and a security-focused version with an integrated, hidden compartment for an Apple AirTag.
For this cage I chosed 30*20 mm holes:
Version 1: Standard Cargo Cage + Accessories The base model features a versatile grid layout with slots for heavy-duty straps (up to 20mm width) and mounting holes.
Version 2: Anti-Theft AirTag Edition This version includes a stealthy, built-in compartment on the back of the cage to securely house an Apple AirTag. It keeps your tracker completely hidden from plain sight, giving you peace of mind while leaving your bike outside. Made a custom key to unscrew it.
Heavy-Duty Design: Reinforced stress points to withstand vibrations, bumps, and trail impacts.
Multi-Strap Slots: Strategically placed vertical and horizontal slots provide maximum flexibility for securing loads of various shapes and sizes.
Print Settings & Recommendations
Since this part is subject to outdoor weather conditions and mechanical stress, PLA is NOT recommended.
Material:PETG, ABS, ASA, or Nylon (PA-CF for ultimate strength and rigidity).
Infill: 30% to 50% (Gyroid or Cubic for omnidirectional strength).
Wall Loops / Perimeters: 3 to 6 walls (Crucial for bolt holes and strap slot durability).
Top/Bottom Layers: 4 to 5 layers.
Supports: Minimal supports required depending on your printer's bridging capability (mostly for the AirTag cap threads or recessed bolt holes).
Hardware Required (BOM)
Fork Mounting: 2x or 3x M5 Bolts (standard water bottle cage bolts, ~64 mm distance).
Straps: Standard bikepacking straps (e.g., Voile straps) or heavy-duty hook-and-loop velcro straps.
I tested it with PETG CF, all accessories mount holds well by friction.
If you print with a different type of plastic, you may need to increase the model by a couple of percent.
