Introducing the Parametric Adjustable Spool Holder for Silica Gel – a purpose-built solution designed to optimize moisture control for your 3D printing filament. This 3D model has been crafted from scratch, with the goal of maximizing the amount of room for silica gel while allowing customization to your specific needs.

Key Features:

Parametric Design for Maximum Silica Gel Capacity: Tailor this spool holder to your exact requirements by adjusting parameters such as spool's inner diameter and width. This flexible approach allows you you to optimize the storage space for silica gel based on your filament spool dimensions.

 

Efficient Moisture Circulation: The spool holder's air vents automatically adjust according to your chosen parameters, ensuring efficient airflow and uniform moisture distribution within the AMS or your storage solution.

Updates:

  • 2023-10-17: Added two additional profiles for Extrudr filament spools. With inner dimensions of 53mm x 55mm and 53mm x 67mm, these profiles offer a perfect fit for your Extrudr spools.
  • 2023-10-16: Added the Closed Container Version tailored for Bambu Lab Spool users. This design allows you to add weight to your spool. You can easily fill it with materials like sand to provide the necessary heft.
  • 2023-10-16: Added a customized version designed specifically for Sunlu Spools. This variant is made for an inner diameter of 73mm, providing an ideal fit for Sunlu filament spools.

Assembly and Installation:

  • Start by 3D printing the three components, following the recommended orientations: Place the Container & Locknut with the handle on the print bed, while the Lid should have its inner side facing the print bed.
  • Once printed, fill the container with silica gel beads. It's essential to ensure that the container is completely filled with silica gel beads to prevent them from deforming during rotation. Alternatively, you have the option to use silica gel bags for convenience.
  • To install, insert the holder through your filament spool. Position the container part on one side of the spool and the locknut on the opposite side.

 

For Bambu Lab spools, you can add approximately 80g of silica gel. Ready-to-print files for both the original and self-printed spools are provided. The default values for these spools are 54mm for the inner spool diameter and 63mm for spool width (self-printed: 67mm).

 

To change the parameters of the Spool Holder, you'll need Fusion 360, which can be downloaded from Autodesk's website and is available for free for private use.

 

 

How to Customize Parameters in Fusion 360:

 

Open the F3D File:

  • Launch Fusion 360 and upload and open F3D file of the Parametric Adjustable Spool Holder for Silica Gel that you want to customize.

 

Access the "Modify" Workspace:

  • Click "Design" > "Solid" > "Modify" in the top menu bar.

 

Choose "Change Parameters":

  • In the "Modify" workspace, find and click the "Change Parameters" icon.

 

 

 

Edit the Parameters (Located at the Top of the List):

  • In the Parameters dialog, find "InnerDiameterSpool" and "WidthSpool" parameters. These are marked as favorites and are conveniently located at the top of the list.
  • Double-click on "Expression" cell of these parameters to edit their values based on your filament spool dimensions.

Review and Save:

  • Observe real-time updates in the 3D model as you modify these parameters.
  • Save your customized model using the "File" menu.

Export for 3D Printing:

  • Export your customized model as a STEP file for 3D printing in Bambu Studio (or a STL file for every other slicer).
