Description

I am happy to present the “Infinity Infill Cube”, my very own version of the famous fidget combining my take on the hinge mechanism while showcasing 16 different infills with accompanying text. This model is simply a must to have next to your printer, as an infill display while also being the most popular and fun fidget. Overall, this model turned out way better than I expected and I could not be happier to share it with you all!

The Model

I started by making my own version of the Infinity Cube Fidget mechanism, trying to minimize the size of the hinges. For printability, the model contains a number of support “points” which makes the model printable. This results in some minor trimming being required after printing. Similarly, some “brim” structures are included in the print profiles, to minimize issues for people with bed adhesion issues.

After making my own version of the Infinity Cube, I continued all work within Bambu slicer. Here I added 16 different “infills” to be shown within the fidget. In addition, the name of each “infill” was also added to the fidget. While I set out to make a multicolour version of this fidget (which looks great), I really ended up liking the single colour version the most. If you do not have a multi-nozzle printer, I really recommend printing the single colour version.

Compared to most fidgets of this design, this model generates a heavy 50g fidget which takes a while to print (with my profiles). The weight was a result of the design choices, but I really think the “Infinity cube” feels better in the hands when heavy. 

While I provide a number of print profiles for the “Infinity Infill Fidget”, I can only provide a single .STL file of the “Base” Infinity Cube model.

 

The model showcases 16 different infills available in Bambu Slicer:

Printing

As all Infinity Cubes, this one might be a little demanding to print. That being said, I have had no issues at all. I expect that poor bed adhesion will be an issue, and have for this reason slowed down the first layer of the print profiles. 

I recommend printing the single colour version as the text looks the best in this version (in my opinion). If you have a printer with multiple nozzles, the multicolour prints are nice, although I which I could have made the font larger. If you decide to print the multicolour versions with a single nozzle, I have also added a print profile (Multicolour profile - Plate 3) which includes a second “Infinity Cube” used as a purge object (giving you 2 fidgets for the price of 1).

 

Post-processing

As with all versions of this fidget, playing around with it will make it move more smoothly. In addition, I would recommend some trimming with a sharp blade. In particular, the 4 brim structures needs to be removed. In addition, some trimming of the many minor support structures will make it both look and feel nicer. Overall, compared to other similar models I have printed, this one is relatively loose and smooth to move.
