Description
Boost MeI'm a disgruntled truck driver who is finding himself enjoying this 3D design stuff a lot more fulfilling and enjoyable than endless hours alone, inside my own head, existing to fill a seat. If you give this track a shot and find yourself digging it, boosting me is a cool, free way to help support this lifestyle change I'm looking for.
I was going to wait until my track is complete to put this up, but I've been having so much fun with it even while under construction that I figure I can go ahead and roll this out while I keep printing.
This system was designed to make use of the edge pieces that are included with interlocking foam floor tiles as race barriers without permanent modification to the foam, such as gluing or cutting, while achieving a subjectively more aesthetically pleasing result than PVC pipes taped to the track surface. The foam can be formed to unique angles and locked down with the help of a flat thumb tack or double sided tape, allowing you to create custom straights, curves, and turns to suit your race requirements and driver desires.
Protects baseboard and cars from each other, helping turn potentially car breaking crashes into wicked wipe outs instead.
Easy storage, breaks down into individual components or lengths of track to fit into a bin.
I used packs of foam anti fatigue mats from Harbor Freight, so the pieces are sized for those and incorporate a slight flex when sandwiching the crash nets between the foam. I used 11 packs of foam and the track is the size of my dining room, so I've got some more printing to do to achieve the look I'm after, but I have found that the integrity of the track is increasing with each batch of components, likely due to the combined weight of each rail section helping each other stay in place. If you have kids or pets, pins are probably not an ideal mounting method especially on a floor height track, but I just watch my step. I received a charitable donation in the form of a trashbag full of alphabet play foam during the tracks construction, I found them to be slightly thinner than the HF foam and resized the components for them accordingly, if anybody has a use for those and would like them added please let me know.
Always never forget to remember to wear eye protection and closed toed shoes while doing anything.
