The VORTEX 2 Tornado Probe (often referred to as a Tornado Pod) is a rugged, rapidly deployable ground instrument used in the Vortex 2 severe weather project to measure the core flow and structural characteristics of tornadoes at ground level.

Key Characteristics:

• Design: A 1-meter (approx. 3.3 ft) tall instrument tower anchored by a heavy, flat base, allowing it to withstand extreme winds without being easily overturned.
• Instrumentation: Equipped with specialized anemometers and sensors to measure high-resolution wind speed, wind direction, temperature, and atmospheric pressure.
• Deployment: Mobile field teams rapidly positioned the probes on the ground in the direct path or immediate vicinity of an advancing tornado to gather data from inside the core flow.

Scientific Purpose:

• The primary goal was to capture "ground truth" atmospheric data in the crucial zone where tornadoes develop to understand why and how tornadogenesis occurs.
• Probes provided critical near-surface data to correlate storm rotation with temperature, humidity, and wind fields.

This model took me lot of time to complete, hope you enjoy it!
