To mainly solve the problem of the cardboard flaps that prevent the AMS door from being closed, I invented AMS2, a simple but functional riser to place on top, which perfectly maintains all the characteristics of the original AMS.

In fact, by dismantling the AMS cover which was simply fixed with 4 screws (see photo) I recreated everything to ensure that the door functions like the original again, dismantling and assembling our support will take you no more than 10 minutes. 15 minutes, and it's all pretty simple.

 

The "U" shaped coil support which locks to the AMS2 frame via a guide is used primarily for when the coils at the end of their cycle, becoming light and can jam and lift from their seat, the support is used to keep them nice and tight, furthermore being made with a "U" groove they help keep the spool well oriented. It also allows you not to print an adapter for cardboard reels for each type of reel and brand.

 

Assembly:

At the end of the printing of the foreground, you will find the 4 components to recreate the frame, which will fit together perfectly, furthermore there will be two modified hinges which will be used to lock the transparent cover to the new AMS2 and to the reel holder body of the original AMS, the four screws to be unscrewed to remove the cover, at the end of the assembly they will have to be repositioned exactly as before, in order to lock both the new AMS2 and the cover to the reel holder body.

You will also find 2 door locking blocks, which will be inserted into the hole on the AMS2 frame. The right amount of force must be used to insert them.

 

Finally in the first printing plane you will find the 4 clamps to be positioned in the guides present on the AMS2, these clamps have the simple function of further blocking the frame to the reel body also in the front part.

 

In the second printing plane you will find the two-piece reel support, the positioning takes place as for the clamps thanks to the internal guide present on the AMS2, for each reel I recommend positioning a support for each side of the reel, it also works with a single support, but it's not great if the reel is at the end.

To mount the supports on the reels, simply move the reel slightly backwards with respect to its seat, to make the support slide again.

 

Finally, I recommend inserting a 6x3mm bioadhesive sponge/foam inside the upper groove where the door is tapped, which will serve to improve the hermetic closure of the door.

my sample was printed with e-sun pla filament, and the result was excellent, even all the supports came off easily using pliers.

As an alternative to foam adhesive tape, I will try to find a solution with TPU filament, although I highly recommend foam tape, I will update you shortly.
