YF-23 Blackwidow Kit Card

The YF-23 Blackwidow was developed by Northrop for the USAF's Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) program. The ATF program was set up by the Air Force to develop the next generation of air superiority aircraft. The program's objectives were Stealth, which was pioneered by the F-117 Nighthawk, Short Takeoff and Landing, and supercruise, which is being able to travel at Mach without engaging afterburners. The final two contestants of the ATF program were the Northrop YF-23 Blackwidow and the Lockheed Martin YF-22 Raptor. The Air Force announced its decision to select the F-22 in April of 1991.
