Introducing (Likely) The World's Smallest Filament Clip specifically designed for eSUN cardboard spools.
I have a number of these filaments and when I just thread the filament over the holes and put it in the box the end usually break the next time I am opening it. So to ease my frustration I designed these clips that are specific to eSUN cardboard spools.
Features:
- very small, it only uses less than 0.5g of filament, which is both a blessing and a curse, since you can only print it with a brim, but even with the brim it is just marginally over 0.5g/pc
- tight fit in the spool hole, there is a protrusion on the spool hole fitti9ng side that prevents it from falling out
- tightly grabs the filament, but easy to separate, the first 2-3 insertions maybe harder but then it will normalize
- removable
- reusable
Prints well with PLA Basic and PLA Matte, my preference is the latter. Likely prints well with PETG also but I haven't tried yet.
Word of caution:
- Do not attempt to print on default settings without a brim. The profile is setup to use a 5mm brim which is required, but then you can blast it with your default speeds. I was only able to print one piece at a time without a brim (there isn't a guarantee that it works every time) but as soon as I increase the number of objects on the plate, it will drag the pieces off even on low speeds. The brim can be easily removed with minimal residue.
- Do not change the orientation. The profile includes the clip on its side and it should be printed like that. If it is printed on its back or standing up then the integrity will be compromised and the clip becomes brittle.
- When putting it on the spool, start with the clip side where it should be and then rotate the other end into the hole. There is no other way to put it on really.
- I prefer mine with a small layer height, but it is up to you to set it to your preference. Above 0.2mm some details might be lost.
