Transparent Butterfly Coaster - Customizable

I designed this butterfly coaster to use with transparent filaments.

There are four (4) layers of colors, allowing you to mix your own combination of colors using transparent filaments.

You can personalize it by added recessed text into the top of the coaster to expose the layers beneath.

At 100% scale, the total height of the coaster is 4.4mm, and the height/width measures 100mm. The height of the surface of the coaster at 3.0mm.

Layer Height Descriptions (from bottom layer to top layer):

• layer 1: 1.0mm height, ranges from layer 0mm to layer 1.0mm
• layer 2: 0.8mm height, ranges from layer 1.0mm to 1.8mm
• layer 3: 0.8mm height, ranges from layer 1.8mm to 2.6mm
• layer 4: 0.4mm height, ranges from layer 2.6mm to 3.0mm

Personalization

Depending on the slicer program you use, there might be options to either cut out space for text on surfaces, or to create text on surfaces and then change the text to a “negative” text to create a recessed space into the print.

Using the Bambu Studio app, you can add this text using the the following:

Click “Prepare” next to home icon → Select “Text shape [T]” on top → Set Thickeness the height of recess → Select font and fill Input Text field values with “Surface” checked and position the text → Right click the new text under “Objects” on the left side bar, and select “Change Type” to “Negative Part” → Select "Move [M] on top and edit the Z value such that the text becomes recessed into the surface

Assuming 100% scale with 3.0mm surface height of layer four (4), to show colors from a certain layer, you need to create recessed text of the following height:

• layer 1: -2.0mm from the surface
• layer 2: -1.2mm from the surface
• layer 3: -0.4mm from the surface

Picture Descriptions

Pictured prints above were printed with 4.0mm nozzle, 0.2mm layer height, enable all top surface ironing, 3 walls, 25% infill.

The first picture was printed with the following layer colors , with honeycomb infill pattern and the name recessed to layer 2:

• layer 1: SUNLU clear (transparent without color) PETG, base color
• layer 2: SUNLU clear red PETG, color change at layer height of 1.2mm
• layer 3: SUNLU clear orange PETG, color change at layer height of 2.0mm
• layer 4: SUNLU black PETG, color change at layer height of 2.8mm

The second picture was printed with the following layer colors , with octagram spiral infill pattern and the name recessed to layer 2:

• layer 1: SUNLU clear (transparent without color) PETG, base color
• layer 2: SUNLU clear green PETG, color change at layer height of 1.2mm
• layer 3: SUNLU clear blue PETG, color change at layer height of 2.0mm
• layer 4: SUNLU black PETG, color change at layer height of 2.8mm
