Magnetic Stirplate

Printing:

Printed great in PLA, with supports needed on some pieces.

Required Hardware:

You will need the 3d printed body, 10mm by 3mm magnets, an 80mm PC fan, a power supply for the fan, and a switch/button.

Main Assembly:

I recommend that you first carefully cut the blades off of the PC fan if you don't plan to use the fan for anything else. Next place magnets facing alternating directions, into the holes on part 2, and glue the part, and magnets to the center top of the piece of the fan’s open end(ensure that the magnets spin when the fan is on). Then you can glue, or screw the fan into the indent in part 1 ensuring that the magnets sit freely into the smaller indent in part 1 and can still spin. wire your power (You will need to use less than 12 volts, as it is too fast, and the plate doesn't function), and switch, feeding your power cable out the small hole in the back, and your switch/button though the big hole in the front. Last place part 3 on the bottom slotting the thin portion into part 1, and aligning the cutouts with the appropriate holes.

Blade Assembly:

First, take two magnets, and place them on-top of the main assembly, to see the direction the need to face to lock onto two magnets directly across from each other. Once you know the direction they nee to face, glue them into part four, or five, ensuring the proper magnet faces are pointing down so that the blade locks into place when set over the proper pair of magnets.

Start-Up:

Once you have done everything above, you can place your blade of choice into a container, place it onto the assembled stir plate, snap the magnets in place, and power on the stir plate to make the blade spin. (Tip: make sure the fan is off before attaching the blade, then power on the fan once the blade is attached).

Note:

If the blade flys off when powered on, or just vibrates, it means the fan accelerates too quickly, to fix this, either use a lower voltage, or attach a potentiometer, so you can gradually increase the speed.
