iPad Holder

Modernise your car's dashboard with this non-invasive table mount.

This is a simple and fast way to add Apple CarPlay or Android Auto to an older car or a car that does not offer these features.

By using an iPad/Android tablet (my instructions will be for an iPad, but I'm sure there is a way to do this on Android also).

To build this project you will need:

• Two car vent phone mounts similar to this: https://amzn.eu/d/dyWk0Nd I got mine in a pound/dollar store!
• A spare iPad/table cover I choose a magentic so I can leave the mount in place and remove the iPad quickly and easily (e.g. https://amzn.eu/d/1ouu3xr).

My Print Settings/Instructions:

• Car Vent Mount (x2)
  • 0.2 layer height
  • 4 perimeters
  • 15% infill
  • Youll need to pause the print between layers 30-55 to insert the magnetic mount (note You'll need to disassemble the mounts. On mine, there was a screw under the prongs rubberised cover that connected the prongs to the magnetic section).
• Tablet Mount (x2)
  • 0.2 layer height
  • 4 perimeters
  • 15% infill
  • I set the bottom layers on mine to 0 to expose the infill to give more surface area for gluing

Assembly

Once you have printed all four parts, reattach the prongs to the magnetic mounts and glue the tablet mounts to the back of your tablet cover.

Then simply place the vent mounts into your car vents and slide the tablet cover into the vent mounts.

Software Suggestions

To achive my results I set up a focus mode on my ipad where I could customise what apps and shortcuts show on my home screen. I also setup an automation that when my ipad connects to my cars bluetooth it automatically enables my mobile data and focus mode (it disables these when it disconnects from the cars bluetooth also).

I have also seen apps that can display info from your car if you purshase an OBD adaptor, I havent tried this out but they look intresting!
